Getting Here

Located in Portugal Cove South, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, the Mistaken Point Interpretation Centre is an approximately 2-hour drive from St. John’s International Airport, roughly 160km south of St. John’s, along Route NL-10 (locally referred to as ‘The Irish Loop’).

For visitors traveling east on the Trans-Canada Highway from off the Avalon Peninsula, the centre is an approximately 2-hour drive south on Route NL-90 (locally referred to as ‘Salmonier Line’).

What to Pack?

There’s places that say they’re ‘off the beaten path’ – and then there’s Mistaken Point. While our little corner of Newfoundland isn’t too far off the tracks (we’re only two hours from an international airport), shopping and dining options are quite limited in the immediate area.

All visitors are advised to plan accordingly and pack an appropriate lunch or snacks for the trip.

It’s important to also note that Newfoundland weather can be very unpredictable. Make sure to check the most up-to-date forecast before heading out, as conditions can change with little notice.

  • Extra socks for the Mistaken Point fossil site (No shoes allowed on the fossil surface)
